New OEM Webinar on Die Cast Product Design Strategies:
Leveraging Key Factors Prior to Part Design Commitment

To aid in optimizing all of the advantages of the die casting process by OEM product designers, engineers, buyers, and independent design consultants, CWM has released a new Webinar on the CWM website in its series of on-demand 24/7 presentations.

Titled "Die Casting Product Design Strategies: Part 1," this 10-minute Webinar provides valuable, practical guidelines for leveraging key design-for-manufacturing cost and performance considerations. It is aimed at helping assure sound decisions prior to design commitment for minimizing both tooling investment and piece part costs.

500% Unit Cost Savings: CWM Miniature Zn Die Casting
Replaces a Low-Volume Machined Brass Component

Download Link to Case Study (below). The low-volume production of a small precision component for a medical device, produced in CNC machined brass, was put through value analysis against possible alternative production efficiencies. Results of the review indicated that a CWM net-shape 4-slide miniature zinc die casting could replace the machined part with no sacrifice in mechanical properties, at a significant cost reduction. The precision component is now being die cast at a 500% unit cost saving. See details of the cost-effectiveness, even at low-volume levels, of 4-slide miniature Zn die casting in the CWM Case Study below.

Chicago White Metal Casting Marks its 70th Year:
Continuing Expansion of Services to OEMs

CWM was founded in 1937 in a loft building in the center of Chicago by Walter G. Treiber, Sr. and Samuel Gullo. As a custom die caster of recyclable alloys, the company operates today under third-generation Treiber family management from a modern 136,000 sq. ft. facility near Chicago’s O'Hare International Airport.

From Zn to Al to Mg and beyond. An early adopter of thin-wall zinc technology, CWM added aluminum die casting and integrated succesive porosity-reduction and predictive software simulation techniques into Al part production. CWM became a pioneer in hot-chamber magnesium die casting as the first North American custom die caster to offer this advanced, faster-cycling process, now operating the largest Mg department of its kind. High-precision in-house CNC machining as well as complete contract manufacturing and assembly became a part of CWM’s broadened services. And today the cost-efficiency of miniature Zn & ZA-8 die casting is offered. CWM and its divisions are ISO 9001 registered and its environmental management systems 14001 registered.
