Since CWM’s hot-chamber Mg machines can normally accommodate the identical die casting dies now being used for most Zn production, this conversion to Mg output can begin immediately after die sampling.

Conversion limitations for a current Zinc part would be those applications where the heavier weight of Zn is a key specification, or that demand other specific mechanical properties of Zn alloy. Mg production, of course can benefit many products by offering significantly lighter part weight. Where a premium chrome-plated finish is required, new alloy and finishing technology can provide Mg parts with an excellent chrome surface finish comparable to zinc.

The set of existing dies for Zn must first be qualified by CWM for volume production, which includes a Zn die sampling on the appropriate CWM hot-chamber Mg machine.
