Corrosion-Resistant Trivalent Chromate Coating for
Die Castings Offers OEMs Environmental Compliance

Environmentally friendly trivalent chromium is now a proven, economical alternative to hexavalent chromium coatings, offering high corrosion resistance for CWM Al, Mg and Zn die castings in a range of applications.

With a bright, cosmetically pleasing finish, this alternative combined conversion-functional coating meets stricter commercial and U.S. and European Union environmental mandates, avoiding the concerns with prohibited products using toxic hexavalent chromates. Results of tests to ASTM standards demonstrate salt-spray protection up to 168 hours on Aluminum alloy 380.

Completely Redesigned CWM Website Offers OEMs
More and Richer Design Guide Resources

A completely redesigned website will offer OEM designers and specifiers more of what they have told us aids them the most in evaluating a production process and a custom producer in that process, in terms of their specific needs.

CWM's site redesign goal has been to improve on our success in meeting those needs by incorporating more OEM design aids and the latest proven techniques of good web design— conveying the maximum amount of information in the shortest navigation time
.

Access to More and Richer OEM Design Aids
A new OEM Resource Center section— an expanded library of valuable CWM and industry die casting design aids brought together in one location, most available as downloads— will be accessible to OEM visitors. We believe it is one of the best collections of its kind offered anywhere.

Cleaner, Easier-to-Navigate Page Design Visitors will know where they are at all times, with pop-up navigation buttons which indicate what will be found in each section before going there. In addition, a "Site Map" page provides a linked content guide to virtually every page of the site.

More In-depth Information, Easily Accessible for Those Who Need It Quick links provide more detailed information: on the company and the capabilities of CWM and its divisions, its sales-engineers, access to online quotation forms, file transfer data, and the latest developments at CWM.

The new CWM Website is scheduled for posting November 18, '05 at our original web address: http://www.cwmdiecast.com/ A preview of the new OEM Resource Center section can be viewed right now at: www.cwm-lit.info/RCgo-preview

Advanced Process Simulation Achieves First-Shot
As-Cast Success for Critical Plating on Aluminum

Critical cosmetic plated finish requirements for die cast component surfaces has always been one of the most challenging specifications for the die casting process. While CWM has established a reputation for highest-quality as-cast surface finishes, trial and error first-piece runs have often been required for the most exacting surfaces on parts with unusual design geometries.

A current project for an aluminum die cast dome-shaped design required a gold-plated finish: the combination of this plating specification and the part's shape meant the optimum surface finish challenge.

After inputting the customer's CAD files and developing the optimum tooling design for the project, use of advanced process simulation software enabled CWM engineers to predict the effects of final metal flow on the critical finished surface. After a series of precise tooling design iterations and repeat simulations, the design was released for die tooling construction. The final result: first-shot success.

CWM publishes a "Guide to Surface Finishing" for die castings, containing design tips for better finishing results and an overview of surface finishing alternatives with cost comparisons. For a copy, contact your CWM Regional Sales-Engrg Representative, or request a copy from the CWM Sales Dept.
